Dr. Said T. Daneshmand - Fertility Medical Doctor, Partner

Dr. Daneshmand is specialty board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and sub-specialty board certified in Reproductive Endocrinology. He serves on the board of several surrogacy advocacy groups. He has collaborated to develop in vitro fertilization (IVF) protocols to improve pregnancy rates, including PTEC (post-thaw extended culture), which is one of the most successful IVF regimens currently available. These groundbreaking findings were published in the internationally respected medical journal, Fertility and Sterility, where Dr. Daneshmand also served as a reviewer. As a leading physician in fertility care at San Diego Fertility Center, intended parents have travelled from more than 40 countries in 2019 alone to seek his help in their journey to parenthood. He was the Principal Investigator in the Multi-Center Global research trial of non-invasive PGT-A, the latest technique for assessing embryonic genetic health without the need for embryo biopsy.

Dr. Susanna Park - Fertility Medical Doctor, Partner

Dr. Park is a fertility doctor double board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. She spent the first 10 years of her career as a fertility physician at Columbia University in New York City, considered to be one of the leading IVF programs in the USA. She joined the San Diego Fertility Center in 2012 where she combines her extensive experience as an infertility physician with personal care. In 2017, 2019, 2020, and again in 2021, Dr. Park was named "Top Doctor" by the San Diego County Medical Society (SDCMS) in San Diego Magazine.

Dr. Brooke Friedman - Fertility Medical Doctor

Dr. Brooke Friedman is double-board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Through her work as a fertility specialist, her peers selected her as a San Diego Magazines “Top Doctor” for seven years in a row. She has also been recognized by her patients with several awards, including Vitals’“Patients’ Choice Award,” the “Compassionate Doctor Recognition” award, and the “Top Ten Physicians” award. Dr. Friedman graduated from Princeton University with honors and earned her medical degree from the University of California San Francisco Medical School, graduating Alpha Omega Alpha at the top of her class. She completed her OB-GYN residency and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility fellowship at Stanford University Medical Center. Dr. Friedman is the author of several published book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals and has presented award-winning research at national meetings. Her scientific areas of interest include optimizing embryo transfer techniques, recurrent pregnancy loss, diminished ovarian reserve, depression treatment, and infertility outcomes. She also speaks French, Spanish, & English.

Dr. Sandy Chuan - Fertility Medical Doctor

Dr. Sandy Chuan is a double board-certified fertility specialist, with extensive experience in complex IVF cases and third-party reproduction. She is known for combining science and compassion, to optimize the chance for success for every patient. Dr. Chuan has received numerous awards including America's & Castle Conolly's "Top Doctor" from 2017-2022 and in 2018 she was named "Top Doctor" by the San Diego County Medical Society and featured in the San Diego Magazine. She graduated from UC Irvine with degrees in Biology & Comparative Literature and earned her MD from the prestigious UCLA School of Medicine in 2003. She completed her fertility fellowship at UCSD, joining SDFC in 2012. Dr. Chuan and her team at SDFC are passionate about family building for the LGBTQ community around the globe. Their mission is to provide compassionate, individualized care with clinical excellence for all intended parents during their journey to parenthood. Dr. Chuan relocated with her family to the United States from Taiwan when she was 8 years old and is fluent in English & Chinese.

Michael Serwa - European Consultant

Michael is one of the European consultants at San Diego Fertility Center and is a father of three through surrogacy and egg donation. In 2017, he and his husband welcomed their son, Noah, and in 2019 they welcomed their surprise twins, Leah and Maya. Michael spent eight years working for a big corporation, but when his son was born, he felt the need to give back to the surrogacy community and help other families with their dreams of becoming parents. In 2019, Michael and his husband also donated their remaining embryos to a same-sex couple living in California who now have two kids through that donation. Although the main clinic locations are in San Diego and New York, Michael is based out of Europe and speaks English, French, and Spanish. He has also worked for 6 years on the agency side supporting European families. His empathy, passion, and personal experience with surrogacy is what will make you feel you are being taken care of during your journey.

Richard Westoby - Senior Consultant

Richard Westoby is a father to a set of boy/girl twins born in September 2012. Richard is an advocate helping prospective parents learn more about IVF and surrogacy in general, and now helps many intended parents from around the world to make informed decisions about the surrogacy process from the outset. In an unbiased way Richard is able to explain the IVF and surrogacy process such that you are able to understand what to think during each step of your family building. On top of this, you are able to gain knowledge that enables you to ask the IVF and surrogacy professionals questions pertinent to each stage of your journey. Richard wrote ‘Our Journey’ One Couple’s Guide to U.S. Surrogacy’ that is not only based on his story but also that details the most commonly asked questions that arise in his meetings with people wanting to learn more about IVF and Surrogacy.

Ruth Ellis - Director for US Development

Ruth Ellis, the Director for US Development at San Diego Fertility Center, has been helping men create the family of their dreams for over a decade. From the moment an Intended Parent speaks with Ruth, the patients know they are in good hands. Her passion is to assist Intended Parents throughout their journey to parenthood, from simplifying and streamlining the long process to providing hand-held guidance. She always says, "In a puzzle with many moving pieces, I want you to feel that I can be relied upon to be a stable touchstone of support."

Anna Buxton - European Patient Liaison

Having built her own family through international surrogacy, Anna understands the emotional, financial, legal, and logistical complexities of the process and provides intended parents with support and guidance throughout their family-building journey. Anna works collaboratively with IVF clinics across Europe to facilitate the shipment of sperm and embryos to SDFC. Prior to working with SDFC, Anna had an 18-year career in investment management, lately as CMO for a large global corporation.

We learned about SDFC from a Men Having Babies conference. They have an impeccable reputation, and we are so happy we chose them for our surrogacy journey. Dr. Susanna Park is competent, knowledgeable, kind, and responsive; she guided us through every decision—egg donor selection, egg retrieval, embryo creation, and PGT testing. We flew to San Diego to attend the embryo transfer in person, an experience we highly recommend to other intended parents. We were very lucky, as we only did one egg retrieval procedure and our surrogate got pregnant with the first transfer. Throughout our journey with SDFC, we felt we were in good hands.

We met Dr. Susanna Park with SDF at the Mens Having Babies Conference in Chicago in Spring 2019 and completed our semen analysis in SDFC in August 2019. (2022, International parents) We've worked with San Diego Fertility Center. We've met the staff at the MHB conference in 2016. The options and pricing are very clear and understandable. We were able to select our donor through their donor database. Our embryos were made out of fresh eggs and then frozen. Every day we've received an email with the status of our embryos, up until the point they were frozen. Our baby was born out of the first FET attempt.

We started working with a different smaller agency and found that process to be incredibly cumbersome, confusing and all together an awful process. When we moved to SFDC and met Dr. Park and her team, it was like a breath of fresh air! The staff was incredibly professional, organized, timely in their communications, and worked to manage our expectations. As you can imagine, all of the details can be incredibly overwhelming, especially to any intended parents who have demanding day jobs. Over 4-6 sets of our other close intended parent friends have worked with Dr. Susanna Park and her team, and we've all been impressed at the efficiency, attentiveness and overall professionalism of her team. Especially as we were considering doing twins, Dr. Park gave us as balanced of a perspective as possible, given the quality of our embryos, the health our surrogate and the fact that we were able to get twins on our first try was nothing short of amazing; but truly a testament to Dr. Park's experience and knowledge.

We had two FETs with two surrogates and both ended in successful pregnancies. We were highly valued "patients" and couldn't ask for more service.

What I found most special is that they made me feel like part of their family and not just another client. Even after the birth of my daughter, the Doctor followed up with me asking how everything was. Overall, they were very kind and caring and I would choose them again through another journey.

(2020, USA parents) Our doctor, doctor's assistant, and nurses were excellent! Very responsive, knowledgeable, and supportive. We just had a few minor issues with the egg donation and financial part. For the egg donation, after a few broken matches, we identified an egg donor and immediately messaged our egg donation coordinator, she didn't respond and we almost missed out on a great match. When I finally went to SDFC for the medical exam, I politely asked if I could speak with the egg donation coordinator face-to-face. Fortunately I was granted the opportunity and when I asked about that particular egg donor, she finally admitted that the egg donor was available and we were able to use her. I'm not sure if this was a minor oversight, but it did make an otherwise amazing experience a little bit troublesome. Also, our financial coordinator was overall great but there was a small error where she mistakenly said we hadn't paid a fee. I had to show her the paid invoice and she immediately apologized and corrected the mistake. Still a great experience overall.

(2020, International parents) We don't know where to start since we had so many issues with the clinic, and especially with their egg donor service. The database was not accurate and updated / clean at all, as we had to go through the selection of 6 different egg donors that were supposed to be available but that failed for different reasons each time, and each time we were losing a lot of time : - 1 didn't have enough follicles while the clinic knew we wanted both fathers to fertilize the eggs, - 1 had a genetic incompatibility with one of the potential father, and while the clinic already had all the screening results for us and the egg donor, they only told us this long after we had chosen her, - 1 was coming back from Brasil with a risk of ZIKA Virus, - 1 that was already pregnant (!), - 1 that went up to the egg retrieval stage and they discovered she had an infectious disease on the egg retrieval date (!!), and we were imposed the last 6th egg donor (a very expensive one) by the clinic that paid the difference. We lacked a real project manager or account manager at this clinic, as we were always chasing them for information, feedback, answers etc... to our requests. At the end of the day, it took us much more time to get an egg donor and the egg retrieval compared to the match with a surrogate who had to wait a couple of months before we could get embryos. He gave it 80% odds of taking, and everything worked out great- our son was born in May. We had them do the pre-transfer testing and we ended up with 5 healthy and fertilized eggs which we froze while looking for a surrogate. First transfer resulted in our son and we have 4 eggs still frozen with and we are hoping to do sibling journeys soon. Very happy we went with SDFC, they came across to us as the best in the field.

(2020, USA parents) We were disappointment with SDFC. We had a rough 2 cycles that resulted in no viable embryos for one of us. Time, travel effort and money were wasted for us. We transferred to a different clinic and now we have viable embryos. Luckily our egg donor was willing to donate again. Our disappointment is the lack of empathy and poor customer service skills from SDFC clinicians. We establish great relationships with our team at the current clinic which we wish we had with SDFC team. Our emails are answered within 24 hours, and even our fertility doctor gave us his number to text urgently. We know this is above and beyond for most clinics, but it definitely is a major customer satisfier.

This journey was more fraught than our first ( where we only needed one embryo transfer) as we had three embryo transfers in pretty quick succession. Everyone stayed with it and stayed cool. We got lucky third time around. They aren't the cheapest option out there, but we only needed to do one transfer and it was successful. Obviously there are other factors involved (and luck), but I believe their professionalism played a great part in this success and have watched friends go with cheaper clinics only to spend much more than we did when the transfers weren't successful. Both our egg donor and surrogate only had positive things to say about their experiences as well - which was really important to us. To give you an idea of how much we like them: no one, not us, not the egg donor, not the surrogate, lived in CA, but we flew everyone out because that's how much we believed in SDFC. They were so professional and kind - highest recommendation!!

They also have an excellent egg donor database, and it was so easy to work with them to create our embryos and then do the transfers.

The doctor has high implantation success rates (100% success for us on 2 GPA including twins). For the egg donor, we were able to choose her easily, the criteria on her side were very clear (they don't all agree to donate for homosexual couples or for foreigners). She agreed that her identity be known and that our daughter could contact her when she was 15 if she wished (a contract was signed with our lawyers)

We definitely recommend working with them. However, their finance department was less than 100% efficient. As we were working with a GC who had previously been matched with other IPs for a journey that did not proceed in the end, several of her tests had already been paid for. As we had already paid in full, these had to be credited back to us. When approached about this, our questions were initially met with silence, and later animosity. Our surrogacy agency had to step in to sort this out.

Dr Daneshmand has awesome bedside manner, so much that our experienced surrogate would only work with Dr D. Dr D was there for us throughout our journey. Our first transfer resulted in an ectopic and Dr D personally discussed with us the situation and was readily available for any questions we had, before during and after. Our 2nd transfer resulted in two healthy full term twins. We used SDFC for our egg donor as well, their donor pool is pretty large with active donors and a great website to review profiles of potential donors. The match was fast within a week or so and testing on the donor began within weeks of the match. I highly recommend both Dr Dandeshmand/SDFC and their egg donor pool for your journey.

Our journey was a little bumpy: our first embryo transfer was successful, but our surrogate had a miscarriage after a few weeks. We decided we needed a fresh start and moved our embryos to SDFC and have been thrilled ever since. Dr. D and the rest of the SDFC were phenomenal. I received prompt responses to questions within 24 hours, I could even text questions and get answers. SDFC took care of the psychological evaluation for our surrogate as well, which saved us time finding a qualified Psychologist., I got to speak directly to the Psychologist to review her evaluation. The transfer went smoothly and resulted in a healthy live birth. The team at SDFC continued to check in on our progress throughout the journey and asked for updates, including pictures of our newborn. If I had questions (even after we had transitioned to the OB), Dr. D would answer them. We successfully thawed one embryo and only had to do one transfer. The entire staff was always positive and engaging, knowing how many transfers and surrogates that we had worked with previously. They also have great financial options to ensure that we would go home with a live baby -- and were willing to work on a payment plan for us to support our journey with them. I am glad we chose to work with them when we decided to start over with a new clinic - we now have a healthy son thanks to Dr. D, Debbie, Susanna, Barbara and Michelle.

They are communicative and supportive. It took a few tries admittedly, but these things do happen (and one of the failed attempts was completely unavoidable by SDFC). I would recommend them in a heartbeat.

Being a Physician myself, it was really great being able to talk with my clinician and discuss the pros and cons of various options and strategies including th more esoteric ones. Our Surrogate also felt the same as she felt the staff and facilities were way superior and she felt that her care was more individualised and targeted.
