Elizabeth is a fellow of the Academy of Adoption & Assisted Reproduction Attorneys and has handled surrogacy matters for over 27 years, assisting intended parents, gestational carriers, and egg and sperm donors with their legal needs. She is the author of the chapter on surrogacy in the 15th Edition of Adoption, Paternity, and Other Florida Family Practice (Florida Bar/LexisNexis, 2024) and author of "LGBT Issues in Surrogacy" in the Handbook of Gestational Surrogacy, ed. E. Scott Sills (Cambridge University Press, 2016). Elizabeth served as counsel on victorious cases suing Florida for fair issuance of birth certificates to same-sex married couples (Chin) and to overturn the ban against marriage equality in Florida (Pareto v Ruvin). She also served as counsel in several cases that helped overturn Florida's bigoted 1977 ban forbidding gays and lesbians from adopting children.
Elizabeth Schwartz (pronouns: she/her) has been practicing law since 1997 and is a nationally recognized advocate for the legal rights of the LGBTQ+ community. Based in Miami, Elizabeth has handled surrogacy for over 25 years, starting with gay male intended parents and evolving to assist all IPs, gestational carriers, egg and sperm donors with their legal needs. She authored "LGBT Issues in Surrogacy" in the Handbook of Gestational Surrogacy, ed. E. Scott Sills (Cambridge University Press, 2016) and edited the Surrogacy chapter in Adoption, Paternity, and Other Florida Family Practice (15th edition, 2023). Florida Bar board certified in adoption law and a fellow of the Academy of Adoption & Assisted Reproduction Attorneys, Liz is the author of the book Before I Do: A Legal Guide to Marriage, Gay and Otherwise (The New Press, 2016), She has served as counsel on victorious cases challenging Florida's anti-LGBTQ+ marriage and adoption bans and is currently counsel on a case challenging the Don't Say Gay/Trans law in federal court.
