Jo-an is founder of the Dutch law firm WENS Familierecht. She has a specialism in surrogacy and provides legal assistance to intended parents and surrogate mothers. Jo-an was admitted to the Amsterdam Bar in 2009. Jo-an is lecturing frequently for the University of Amsterdam and the Dutch Bar association and has published several articles in scientific magazines about the legal aspects of (international) surrogacy in The Netherlands. She is a member of the Advisory Committee Family law legislation for the Dutch Bar association and a member of the Dutch Advisory Committee for the Foundation Donor details and Artificial Fertilization. Jo-an is also the chairman of Stichting DURF, which stands for Dutch rainbow professionals. Jo-an also regularly participates as a speaker for professional and non-profit organizations. She is married and has 2 sons.
