Dr. Mark P. Leondires - Founder, Medical Director, and Partner

Dr. Mark Leondires is founder and Medical Director at Illume Fertility. After he and his husband Greg had two children through the complex journey of egg donation and surrogacy he realized the need for a more comprehensive concierge service for assisted reproductive team. Thus the birth of Illume's LGBTQ-focused family building program, Gay Parents To Be. He is proud to enable members of the LGBTQ community to build the family of their dreams, as he believes all hurdles are surmountable and the joys of parenting are boundless. Dr. Leondires is board-certified in both Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN) and Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility (REI), and has been selected a Best Doctor in America, a Top Doc by Castle Connolly and the 2015 Path to Parenthood Visionary Award Recipient for his outstanding commitment to patient care and building families.

Dr. Laura Meyer - MD

Dr. Laura Meyer is double board certified in Reproductive Endocrinology and Obstetrics and Gynecology. She graduated magna cum laude from Duke University, and earned her medical degree from the NYU School of Medicine. She subsequently completed both her residency and fellowship at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center. During her residency she was appointed Administrative Chief Resident and was the recipient of the Distinguished Housestaff Award by the Cornell Alumni Council. Her areas of interest include surrogacy, reproductive genetics, and IVF. Dr. Meyer provides comprehensive, compassionate, and individualized care to all of her patients on their journey to parenthood, and has been helping families grow through surrogacy for almost a decade. She is fluent in Spanish.

Ilume provided good medical advice resulting in a successful pregnancy. Only hassles were typical doctor’s office-type disorganization and disagreement with agency re if surrogacy candidate could handle stress of pregnancy. Some might find Ilume too cautious, others could see it as a positive.

We had a seamless, professional and caring experience working with Illume and Dr. Leondires for our first and second surrogacy journeys. They were accommodating, clear and supportive about what was expected of us as intended parents as well as what was expected of our surrogate in the lead up to and during our sperm retrieval and embryo transfer. Illume's staff was also hugely supportive of our egg donor during her egg retrieval process. We appreciated that Dr. L would call to check in as soon as information was available (often after hours). We also appreciated the expert advice we received at the clinic about things like donor selection and what choices to make around genetic testing. Would highly recommend!

Medical assistants were phenomenal. At times, the practice was disorganized with poor communication. Relationship with the fertility doctor was strained through much of the journey.

But sometimes they left messages at the end of the day, and we couldn't get in touch until the following days.

Overall, we were very pleased with our experience working with Illume Fertility. Dr. Leondires and his team were responsive and professional. We did have a small hiccup when trying to match with our preferred egg donor but that was ultimately resolved through increased communication and process clarification. We particularly appreciated the finance team and nursing staff at Illume who we engaged with the most frequently. They were incredibly thoughtful and accessible.
