Alexander Schuster holds a dual doctorate from Trento and from Strasbourg University and a diploma from the European Public Law Organisation. He is currently a researcher at the University of Graz, Austria, from where he coordinates the EU co-funded project Identities on the move – Documents cross borders (DxB). He was previously lead researcher of the Rights on the move – Rainbow families in Europe and of the project EQUAL-JUS. He acts as board member of the Center for Gender Studies at the University of Trento and of the Euro-Regional Association for Comparative Public Law and European Union Law. He is also an Italian attorney based in Trento with a focus on family law and assisted reproduction. In over 15 years of practice, his cases before the highest jurisdictions and the European Court of Human Rights changed the law in the field. He acted as an independent legal expert to the EU Commission – DG Justice and the Council of Europe.
